Mayor and Council are so hellbent on creating another bureaucratic agency staffed by them complete with a dedicated Budget, that they have failed to recognize a success story that just occurred at Brookfield Apartments on Washington Road. Brookfield Apartments has been in the designated Urban Redevelopment Area: Washington Road Corridor since 2006. Using tools that had been previously adopted during the Macon and Pittman Administrations to address unsafe housing conditions due to crime that could spread and lead to SLUM like conditions in the area, the City and the Owner agreed to a MOU (Memorandum of Understanding), a Partnership to remedy the problem. Public-Private Partnerships are great tools to use when both Parties benefit with the least cost to the City.
The City used documentation from the Police Department and Code Enforcement to build their case in Court against the property Owner in a designated Urban Redevelopment Area/District, and WON. The MOU was a direct result of the Court verdict.

This was done without designating the existing Urban Redevelopment Area/District as a SLUM, and without creating an Urban Redevelopment Agency with Mayor and Council as the Board of Commissioners with a dedicated Budget. It was done by employees doing their JOB!
