UPDATE!
The above title was originally posted as “East Point Blacks Betray Black Heritage”. I hope the change in title will reflect more clearly that the emphasis is on East Point Elected Black Officials. Sorry for any inconvenience.
February is national Black History Month, however every Black should celebrate and honor the sacrifices made by past Blacks, non-Blacks, men women and children of all races and backgrounds who contributed to making America live up to the promises made in the United States Constitution, Declaration of Independence and the Preamble to the Constitution, State Constitution and Local Municipal Charters each and every day. Black elected officials have a special duty and responsibility to protect the rights of all Americans under the law because of this country’s long history of denying Blacks the rights stated in these historical documents. I do not take lightly the thousands of Americans, Black and non-Black, who died fighting for equal rights and justice under the law. So, I have a giant problem with Black elected officials who violate laws that apply to all citizens for their personal gain. Instead of protecting the citizens of East Point too many of our elected officials have turned their backs on the very laws that would protect and enhance the quality of life for the citizens for their own personal greed and gain. Instead of Leaders, they have become Welfare Monarchs providing goodies for selected citizens at the expense of the taxpayers with no tangible benefits to the City. They are Black elected officials who are betraying their Black Heritage. Shame on them and shame on the Black citizens who condone their actions by accepting ill-gotten favors and not speaking out about the abuse of power that was paid for by the blood of both Blacks and non-Blacks.
WELFARE KING JOSHUA BUTLER
Council Member (CM) Joshua Butler is an East Point resident who has no history of signing a rental Agreement/Lease; a Mortgage or any Utility Account on any property within the City limits of East Point. He grew up in East Point in the Williamsburg Subdivision where he is currently living with his parents. After serving time for a felony conviction, he successfully ran for elected office in East Point. CM Nanette Saucier filed a lawsuit, as a resident, challenging his qualifications to run for the seat because of concerns with his pardon and parole status for restoration of his rights to hold elected office. (Read: Saucier v. Butler Lawsuit Verdict.) The lawsuit is about his conduct BEFORE becoming an East Point elected official.
CM Butler, for unknown reasons, decided that the City of East Point should pay his legal fees for something that happened to him prior to becoming and elected officials. (Read: Pay Legal Fees for Council Member! Update). Unfortunately, five Council Members including CM Butler voted to overturn the Mayor’s veto and the City paid $14,457.88 in attorney fees. The process that the Mayor allowed to happened that resulted in the City Staff paying this bill violated the City’s Ethics Policy, State and National Statues that prohibit any elected official from participating in any discussion/vote that directly personally benefits him/her. This action by the Council is no more than welfare for CM Butler.
CM Butler needs to repay the City $14,457.88 for his legal fees that has nothing to do with the City. The Council needs to vote to send him a bill for the money. Evidently, CM Butler has not learned from his previous incarceration.

CM Butler also used City funds to pay for two entertainment events: Silver Fox Ball in 2018 and Seniors Masquerade Ball in 2019, for seniors at a cost of $5,000 each. These Balls are nothing more than campaign payoffs and future vote buying using taxpayers money. No objective criterion of any kind has ever been made to identify how Seniors were chosen and who the Seniors were. This money is spent to entertain Seniors 70 years old and older who are no longer on the City’s property tax roll. This is outrageous and any Senior who attended theses events ought to be ashamed. This is social welfare that does not provide any tangible benefit to the City. He needs to reimburse the City $10,000 for his thank you parties.
CM Butler’s vindictive actions in attempting to get back at an appointee who voted on a zoning matter that he did not want is also a betrayal to those Blacks and non-Blacks who die for all Americans to have equal justice under the law. The Council went along with him in adopting Ordinances that are clearly in violation of the City Charter but that is nothing new for this Mayor and Council. I did not make an open records request for any of the Credit Card Statements from our esteemed elected officials since the ones I previously posted. I did request charges and invoices from the City that were not paid using individual elected officials credit cards. Every time any Black elected official uses taxpayers money to pay for any activity that violates the State’s Gratuity Clause, he/she is betraying their Black Heritage. Blacks did not die or faced death, loose their jobs and homes so future Black elected officials could do the same things to them that non-Blacks had been doing since their ancestors docked on slave ships- hiding behind their elected office and the law to satisfy their own greed and personal gain. What has CM Butler done for anyone or group in East Point of his own volition that has nothing to do with his being an elected official that has benefited East Point? CM Butler is a Welfare King leeching off the public for personal gain.
