As of today, July 26, 2019, Mayor Deana Holiday-Ingraham has not cancelled her meeting in the City’s Council Chambers for Monday, July 29, 2019. Although, she has had more than enough time to research the City Charter, and get a legal opinion from the City Attorney or any other attorney of her choosing, she insists on violating the City Charter; “Sec. 2-504.- Use of public property. No elected official, appointed officer, or employee of the city or any agency to which this charter applies shall use property owned by such governmental entity for personal benefit, convenience, or profit except in accordance with policies promulgated by the city council or the governing body of such agency or entity.” Public property also includes the use of the City’s cable station and City paid videographer. Mayor and Council have not adopted any policy concerning the use of the Council Chambers other than for Council Meetings. Therefore, neither the Mayor nor individual Council Members forming less than a quorum can use the Council Chambers for meetings without violating the above section of the City Charter, and their Oaths of Office.
I suggest that Mayor Holiday-Ingraham move her meeting to another location or cancelled the meeting. That is the only legal and right thing to do.
